Maximum Demand Control

We are able to provide engineering and consultancy services for maximum demand control. We achieve maximum demand control and/or reduction of maximum demand usage for our Clients in the following steps:

  1. Analysis of TNB bill to determine potential savings; including possible tariff optimization.
  2. Monitoring of TNB meter to understand demand pattern and load profile.
  3. Data analysis of load profile to determine maximum demand target suitable for the Client.
  4. Work with Client to identify causes of peaks in demand; and suggest potential steps to mitigate high demand.
  5. Raise awareness of importance of maximum demand control and monitoring in the organization; particularly to Production, Finance, Production Control and Production Engineering.
  6. If required, explain how demand is calculate and how demand can be avoided.
  7. Assist Client to set automated SMS and email alerts.
  8. Continuous monitoring, data analysis and improvement; sharing data analysis methods with Client.
  9. Monitoring of individual machines machines, electricity distribution lines or production lines. This can be achieved by means of a portable monitoring unit.
  10. Identify energy saving and energy efficiency measures for the Client.

The key success feature is to understand how electricity is used in a facility as well as the causes of high demand. Only then Client can systematically reduce demand, improve on efficiency and save on energy cost.

We offer the first step free of charge; and a rental option of all equipment is available for you to test out our effectiveness.

Energy Usage Profiling

Efficient use of energy important in many aspects, from increasing business profits to saving the environment. But where does one start?

TKES offers a unique energy profiling tool. To decide and to optimize a system, accurate and timely data is essential. We have the tool just for that. The tool is a portable hosted data acquisition system. This system is ready to be hooked onto electrical supply lines, typically at the incoming switch board. The unit has non-intrusive high accuracy clamp-on current transformers (CTs). In most cases, no shut down is necessary. We however request that the plant's qualified chargeman be present and assist with the installation of this portable unit.

Once installed, this portable unit will start transmitting data to a hosted server. It is that simple. The client does not have to purchase any software, or hardware. TKES provides a rental basis for the tool. No Capex. No maintanence cost. No software installation. No servers required. Just accurate data delivered in a timely manner.

The key differentiating factor is data is monitored and delivered in real-time for long durations. We suggest that monitoring be done over a week to have sufficient information for trending purposes. Most energy audits will be based on theoritical calculations. Actual measurements are done only in a matter of minutes, not even hours. It is not a representative sample of the consumption pattern.

What data do can we measure. Immediately available, we can measure three phase current, voltage, energy  (kWh and kVArh) and derived power and power factor. But with our special trending tool, we can obtain Maximum Demand (MD) data. Managing MD is the quickest way to reduce electricity bills. Do you know when does the MD occur? For how long does it occur?

We offer the first step free of charge; and a rental option of all equipment is available for you to test out our effectiveness.

Remote Data Acquisition and Monitoring Systems

Not sure if your home alarm has triggered? Or power has failed? Or the water level at your waste treatment pond? There are a whole host of parameters which requires monitoring, from a small home based power supply to the aquarium, to the temperature of the cold water supply from a chiller plant. Typically, these are critical parameters that needs continuous monitoring. Need more? To automatically turn on the lights when it is dark? And you can still remotely control your room lights?

How are system works? It is simple. All that is installed on site is a 'gateway'. The sensors are connected to the gateway, and the gateway will send the data to a server, using either SMS, LAN internet connection, 3G, DSL such as Streamyx or even the good old dial-up modem. As a customer, you will only need the sensors and the gateway. We will take care of the server for you.

The gateway and the server will continuously monitor the sensors. Once it is out of the defined limits, it will send an alert to the assigned personnel. Alerts can be in the form of SMS or an email. If the situation is not resolved, we could escalate the alert or repeat the alert.

The system is designed in a fail safe manner. If the gateway does not report itself to the server within a specific time frame, it is deemed to have fail. We will send an alert. The gateway will be packaged in a manner to withstand surges and power failures for at least 4 hours.

What can be monitored? Pretty much any sensor can be monitored. Here are some examples of possible parameters to monitor:

  • Temperature & Humidity
  • Water level, fuel level
  • Flow rate
  • Power fail, MCB trip, ELCB trip, ACB on / off status, ACB trip
  • Voltage (V) and current (A)
  • Real and Reactive Energy (kWh, kVArh), Power (kW, kVA)
  • Power Factor
  • Maximum Demand (MD) Charting, MD Peak alert
  • Alarm triggered
  • Relative Light level
